It would be great if I earned Skywards Miles on a flight. Can I?

Sure! The number of Miles you earn depends on whether you travel Economy, Business or First Class, type of fare you purchase; i.e. Skywards Flex or Skywards Saver and where you start and end your journey, You not only earn Miles when flying Emirates, but also on partner airlines*.

* Please note that on codeshare flights, Skywards Miles will only be earned on flights that carry an Emirates flight number. A codeshare flight is one where an airline sells tickets under its name for flights operated by a partner carrier.

What is a Skywards Saver Fare?

A ‘Skywards Saver’ fare is any Emirates fare with either:
(a) Eligibility restrictions (such as students; seniors; companions; contracted group travel etc)
(b) A limited sales period (“must purchase by” date)
All fares sold by other airlines, partly flown on Emirates, also fall into this category.

What is a Skywards Flex fare?

A Skywards Flex fare is any Emirates fare with none of the above restrictions, i.e. no eligibility or purchase restrictions.

Will children continue to earn Skywards Miles at the same rate as adults?

Yes, children will earn at the same rate as adults, even if travelling on child fares.

What is the number of Miles I can earn on a particular journey?

You will earn 100% of base Miles when you purchase ‘Skywards Flex’ fares. You will earn 50% of base Miles when you purchase ‘Skywards Saver’ fares.

You will also earn 75% bonus Miles when you fly Business Class or 150% bonus Miles when you fly First Class. In addition to this you'll receive a 25% bonus if you are Skywards Silver and 50% bonus if you are a Gold member. Special promotions on certain routes will also give you further Skywards Miles through our Miles Accelerator.

If I have a mixed class or mixed fare ticket, what Miles will I receive?

If your ticket contains one or more different fares (e.g. half ‘Skywards Saver’ and half ‘Skywards Flex’), the applicable Skywards Miles will be calculated and credited for each individual fare separately, i.e. for the relevant flights of your journey.

What is the difference between Skywards Miles and tier miles?

Skywards Miles are your reward currency and are earned whenever you fly with Emirates, our partner airlines*, and through our hotel, leisure and lifestyle partners. Tier miles are earned only when you fly Emirates and help you to progress to Skysurfers Silver and Skysurfers Gold membership. Tier miles you earn remain valid for up to 13-months.

*Please note that on codeshare flights, Skywards Miles will only be earned on flights that carry an Emirates flight number. A codeshare flight is one where an airline sells tickets under its name for flights operated by a partner carrier.

What do you mean by Origin-Destination?

Origin is where you commence each leg of your journey, i.e. your first departure city or zone. Destination is where you end each leg of your journey, i.e. your final arrival city or zone (the farthest most point from your origin).

For example, if you buy a ticket from London to Auckland, your origin point is London and your destination is Auckland. If you hold a return ticket, the same definition applies in the reverse direction. Thus, on your return leg your origin would be treated as Auckland and your destination as London.

Are my Skywards Miles added to my account immediately?

Miles will be calculated from where your journey begins and ends. Therefore, Miles will be credited to your account after each leg of your journey (outbound and inbound).

For example, if you purchase a ticket from London to Sydney, you will receive Miles for your outbound leg after you reach Sydney. If you have a return ticket, the same will apply in the reverse direction and you will receive Miles after you complete your inbound leg and arrive back in London.

Do my Miles expire?

Your Skywards Miles are valid for three years from the date you earn them, during which you can redeem them at any time for rewards. Skywards Miles expire once in a calendar year, at the end of the month in which you are born.

For example, if you earned Miles in June 2009 and your birthday is in August, your Miles will expire on 31st August 2012. Or, if you earned Miles in October 2009 and your birthday is in August, your Miles will expire on 31st August 2013.

Your tier Mile balance however is calculated over any consecutive 12-13 month period.

How will I know when my Miles are going to expire?

Your Skywards Miles are valid for three years from the transaction date and you will be notified via email and as part of your online statement before they are due to expire. Skywards Miles that have already expired cannot be re-credited.

How many Skywards Miles do I need to claim a reward?

The number of Skywards Miles required for a reward ticket varies according to where you fly from and where you fly to. Rewards offered by our non-airline partners, e.g. Magrudy's, start from as little as 5,000 Skywards Miles.

Can I purchase Miles?
